Recently I re-watched Pump Up the Volume, and was astonished how classic Samantha Mathis' character's style is. You could walk into any high school and find a young woman dressed in that outfit, scribbling in her journal or doodling in her sketchbook, the secret girl crush of many in her social circle.
 
This outfit is an imagining of what she might wear, who she might be, once she got out of Arizona. She is every bit the moody and mysterious rebel. She is at once, the girl you wish you were and the girl you want to be.
